Law Roach, Jeremy Pope Among the Honorees at the 2024 Native Son Awards
Last night, over 300 guests gathered in the Frank Gehry–designed IAC Building to celebrate an evening of queer Black excellence. The 2024 Native Son Awards kicked off with cocktails, a full guest list of trailblazers and stars, and a blue carpet with looks worthy of any best-dressed list; Law Roach was honored that night, after all.
Hosted by anchor and journalist Don Lemon, a recipient of the honor in 2016, the recipients of the night’s awards were a handful of stars that need very little introduction. Designer LaQuan Smith presented an award to Law Roach, who you know as the stylist behind Zendaya and Céline Dion’s best looks and his signature red-carpet looks. Actor and singer Jeremy Pope was presented with an award by actor Nicholas Ashe. Also honored were Tony Wward–winning choreographer Bill T. Jones, the Chamber Group CEO Chris Chambers, best-selling author Keith Boykin, and activist and CEO Gabriel Maldonado.
There was also an auction for a custom piece created by sculptor Damien Davis that attendees could bid on throughout the night and a performance by musician and artist Serpentwithfeet. Native Son also announced a partnership with LGBTQ+ media brand Q.Digital to launch a channel for programming that celebrates and centers Black gay and queer voices. What more could you ask for!
Here are some of the best looks of the evening.
