The annual Cannes Film Festival, which kicked off this week, features some of the most highly anticipated films of the year, the longest standing ovations (ten minutes!) ever, and occasionally some drama (like Kristen Stewart taking off her heels in 2018). However, the highlight of the festival for many is the fashion. This year, we’ve seen stars such as Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior, Naomi Campbell in an earlier Chanel runway look (for which she was the original model), and Greta Gerwig in Saint Laurent. But the red carpet was truly set ablaze by our new favorite star, Yseult.
The 29-year-old French singer and model shut down the red carpet for Megalopolis in a full Dior couture look. The pleated skirt and white fitted jacket nod to the brand’s New Look silhouette from the 1940s, emphasizing the waist and hips. A red-carpet look rarely becomes an instant classic, especially on this red carpet, but Yseult just added herself to the list of greats. But that doesn’t come easy. Yseult told us earlier this year that she will prepare for months, even a year, for moments like this, working closely with the designer to create a look that both fits and celebrates her body.
Not only is Yseult not afraid to speak her mind and advocate for more size inclusivity in the industry, she told the Cut earlier this year, she’s not afraid to take style risks. At last year’s Cannes Film Festival, she wore custom Balenciaga after DM-ing the brand’s CEO to inquire about expanding the size range. She’s also worn a bright red McQueen dress accented with oversize roses and an all-white Schiaparelli number complete with leather gloves and gold nail accents. While we’re already anticipating the Francis Ford Coppola film and the alleged ten-minute-long standing ovation, we’re also waiting to see what Yseult wears next. We think Yseult’s look deserves a round of applause too.
